Greetings, Family and Friends!
We hope this letter finds you well, and looking forward to a new year, as you reflect on this past year. No doubt there have been challenges and joys… there always are. It will be no different this upcoming year… but the key, we’re certain, is to be grateful for all the many ways we are blessed. That may sound “cheesy”… but it happens to be true. Yes, sometimes that requires a lot more effort than we think it should… but the payoff is peace.
This year, for us, has been “the year of doctors”. Matt and I have been addressing multiple health concerns… the most significant was finding that Matt had five coronary artery blockages in his heart, leading to quadruple bypass surgery in April! The physical toll was obviously great on him, but the emotional toll affected us both. It brought a clearer understanding of what it means to be partners. He happens to be doing well at this point – but FULL recovery is a long road and while everything is given the OK from the Surgeon and Cardiologist, it is expected to be at minimum a full year before everything FEELS back to 100% normal. (Matt is writing this part) – I am very grateful for modern medical technology and that this was found and repaired with no heart attack. The surgeon was very pleased with how things looked and how the procedure went. He said the repair should last the rest of my natural lifetime without causing any additional problems. I walk twice a day, every day (Bella loves it!) for a minimum of 3 miles, and try to keep up with additional workouts at least 2x per week. With our health insurance “out of pocket” costs being met in April, we decided it would be a good time to take care of every “hang nail” we were concerned about. Believe me, at this point in our lives, that’s a lot of hang nails! (dermatologists, podiatrists… blah, blah, blah)
Tim and Debbie (and Mila) are well… always busy. Tim started a Master’s program in Counseling, and is doing very well. As you might imagine, working full time and going to school isn’t for sissies. Debbie works hard at her counseling job. I can’t keep up with all their involvements, but trust me – they’re many. In January, they were able to visit Debbie’s family in India. Something they wish they could do more often!
We had a Worzala reunion in June. Many of Matt’s cousins travelled to Wisconsin and “caught up” with each other. It was nice. A brief visit from one of his cousins (Donny and Susan) to our home in Illinois gave us EXTRA time to catch up. It was a great week for us. Matt also got to see his cousin Dan who came up to visit with his son-in-law’s family that just moved in nearby us.
My brother (Ann’s) Ed and his wife Linda visited us from New York for a couple of days this past Fall… it was great to have so much time to spend with them, with no agenda!
Matt was able to take a week long fly-in trip to a cabin in Ontario with friends in September. It was SO relaxing and just what the doctor ordered!
We’ve been doing some church hunting… still hoping to find a good fit…a place where we can grow in our relationships with God, make some friends, and find an outlet to serve. Matt and I each continue to be involved in our individual small groups…they’re key involvements for each of us – iron sharpening iron.
Well, that’s the long and the short of it.
Be well. Keep in touch. We love you.
Merry Christmas!
Ann and Matt
